Little Golden Books

Golden books

Do you remember the Little Golden Books series? They're now collectibles!

Almost every Mom has a few of the Little Golden books in her child's library of story books. These classic stories are as popular now as they were when they were first introduced, way back in 1942. Your child's great-grandmother may have bought several of these children's books as bedtime stories for your grandmother!

Originally published by Simon & Schuster, this series retains its luster right up to the present. Although the Little Golden books has changed ownership several times since their original publication, but the reputation and popularity of this series has not diminished in the least. Many of the original stories have been translated into several languages and sold by the millions, around the world. In fact, these books are now considered to be valued collectibles.

Among the original titles, such classics as 'The Little Red Hen', 'Three Little Kittens', 'Mother Goose' and 'The Poky Little Puppy' are still in print. While you can still go to any children's book store and find these enduring titles, the Little Golden series now includes an expanded line of product formats with which you can still delight a child.

The Little Golden book line eventually encompassed post World War II television favorites, such as Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Captain Kangaroo and Hopalong Cassidy, all 1950s favorites. Toys and games from Disney, Sesame Street, Barbie and the Power Rangers are just some of the products which now bear the Little Golden insignia.

Many of the original and early Little Golden book titles are as popular today as they were over 60 years ago. Fairy tales, nursery rhymes, Bible stories and Christmas tales are still snapped up every year, along with more recent science and nature stories.

The variety of media producing the Little Golden book series is astonishing. You can now buy a CD which includes six of the original 1942 book titles in the Macromedia Flash(TM) format.

Today, Random House is the owner and publisher of the Little Golden books. Take a look at the Random House website for some interesting history details on this series.

While the Little Golden Books are now available in these updated formats, just think about how valuable the original books must be today. If you've got a stash of these delightful children's books in your attic, you might want to dust them off and set them aside as treasures to pass on to your kids ... and their kids.
