Find Fun Kids Games Online that are Also Educational

My youngest son is still in kindergarten, which means that he only goes to school for half a day and is home alone with me for several hours before his siblings return
Believe me when I say that those few hours can feel like an eternity, particularly when my son gets into his whiny "I have nothing to do and I'm so bored!" mood. Never mind that he has two toy boxes that are positively overflowing with stuff he previously begged for and had to have. He constantly needs new ways to be entertained, which is why I've been finding and bookmarking websites that feature fun kids games for him to play.
Obviously, I don't let my son use the computer unsupervised, nor would I plant him in front of a mindless shooting or racing video game for an hour. Instead, I only let him play fun kids games that are also educational in nature, meaning that he has to be learning something important in the process. Fortunately, I've found many children's web sites that feature interesting reading, math, and thinking activities that are both enjoyable and can keep my son happily occupied until his older brothers come home.
It was fairly easy to find all of these free fun kids games online. I belong to several virtual parenting communities, so I was able to get tons of recommendations from other members of a message board that I frequent. After checking those out, I also hit the search engines on my own and found hundreds more fun kids games that way. All told, I have bookmarked more than 100 websites that I deem safe and educational for my son, and he's having a blast trying them all out.
There are a couple of added benefits to letting my son play fun kids games online that go beyond the basic reading and arithmetic skills that he's learning. First of all, my son is getting to know his way around the computer. Under my supervision, he can now boot up, connect to the Internet, and navigate to his favorite web sites. Moreover, he's becoming more dexterous with the mouse, and is becoming familiar with the keyboard. Getting an early start on the computer will definitely help him out later on.
And second, this gives us a chance to spend some quality time together. While my son is playing his fun kids games, I'm sitting right next to him cheering him on. This has sort of become our ritual, and we both look forward to our early afternoon gaming session.
If you're having trouble finding positive, productive ways to keep your children busy, I recommend checking out the variety of fun kids games that are available online. There's truly something for every taste, so you're bound to discover a few fantastic activities for your little ones to enjoy!
